An Illinois man is facing federal firearms charges after an April incident in which he shot himself during a dream.

Mark Dicara, who was arrested Monday, told authorities with Lake Country Sheriff's Office he thought his home was being burglarized on the night of April 10. He said he picked up his handgun, a .357 Magnum revolver, and opened fire on the supposed intruder.

However, the sheriff's office said that the break-in was just a dream and Dicara ended up shooting himself in the leg, losing a significant amount of blood.

He now faces two felony charges, one for possession of a firearm without a valid Firearm Owners Identification card (Dicara's card was revoked) and reckless discharge of a firearm, the Lake County Sheriff's office said in a news release.

CNN, which also reported on the incident, said it was unable to contact the defendant nor determine whether he has an attorney.

Dicara was released on bail after posting a $150,000 bond and is expected in court near the end of the month.
