U.S. Marshals searching for man wanted in deadly Hays County hit-and-run crash
HAYS COUNTY, Texas — Nahum Maldonado Rogel, 37, is wanted for failure to stop and render aid resulting in death relating to a crash in Hays County in October 2022.
“This was a crash that occurred on South Highway 21 in Hays County where he collided with another motorcycle,” said Deputy U.S. Marshal Brandon Filla.
The driver of that motorcycle, a 51-year-old woman, died. DPS troopers searched a red 2015 Nissan Altima left at the scene and say they found a passport and insurance card belonging to Maldonado Rogel. Texas Rangers interviewed him just a few days later, and they say elements of his story didn’t add up.
“He first stated that he went to a party on October 22nd. At that party he said he had 10 beers where he was highly intoxicated and doesn’t really remember much,” said Filla. “Then said he passed out and went to sleep around 4:00 a.m.”
But when Maldonado Rogel voluntarily allowed Texas Rangers to search his phone, they say they found messages from the night of the crash where Maldonado Rogel told a family member he had been in an accident. He hasn’t been seen since that interview.

“Based upon our investigation, we’ve learned that Maldonado Rogel fled to Orlando, Florida where his vehicle was found at an in-law’s residence,” said Filla.
U.S. Marshals believe someone in the Austin area knows where he is. Maldonado Rogel had a child in Del Valle ISD whom he withdrew from the district around the time of the crash, worked out at Planet Fitness, and worked in construction.
“That specific construction site was off of 183-A in the Cedar Park area where they’re building a new children’s hospital,” said Filla.
Nahum Maldonado Rogel is 5’4” and weighs 160 pounds.
